What Are Feed-In Tariffs? - Generate Electricity
The Feed in Tariffs schemes will encourage investment in small scale low carbon electricity in return for a guaranteed payment for the electricity they generate
Electricity Generating Technologies Included in the Feed in Tariffs Scheme
The scheme covers the following electricity generating technologies:
Feed in Tariffs
Feed in Tariffs were introduced to Great Britain on 1st April 2010. The scheme requires energy suppliers to make regular payments to householders and communities who generate their own electricity from renewable or low carbon sources, such as Solar PV and wind turbines.
The feed in tariffs scheme guarantees a minimum payment for all electricity generated by the system, as well as a separate payment for the electricity exported to the National Grid. These payments are in addition to the savings on electricity bills made by using electricity generated on site.
Aim of the Feed in Tariffs Scheme
Through the feed in tariffs scheme, it is hoped to encourage deployment of additional low carbon electricity generation, particularly by organisations, businesses, communities and individuals who are not traditionally engaged in the electricity market. This 'clean energy cashback' will allow many people to invest in small scale low carbon technology, in return for a guaranteed payment for the electricity they generate.
Feed in Tariffs - Householders to Make Homes Energy Efficient
Before investing in renewable or low carbon energy systems, it is important to make sure the house is as energy efficient as possible, so that the energy generated is not wasted. The following measures should be taken:
- Ensure that there is adequate loft and cavity wall insulation
- Check that heating controls have been installed
- Replace all old bulbs with low energy lighting
- Always buy Energy Saving Recommended rated appliances
